Will a Chocolate Be Able To Save the village of Doel?
When the Doel chocolate of KunstDoel was selected for the international Pastries network of Love Difference, an international socially-committed artistic movement founded by the famous Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, a Belgian newspaper asked in a headline: "Will a Chocolate Be Able To Save the village of Doel?" We do not know whether this will be possible, but this funny and innocent project has in any case brought about a positive pro-Doel swing in public opinion.

KunstDoel's appeal to maintain Doel as an "artistic events village" inside and in harmony with the port has since been signed by nearly 1700 people and last 22 October, Flemish Culture Minister Bert Anciaux wrote on his blog: "There may be a little chance that the port would look nicer if we maintain Doel. The village could be given a meaningful role: an arts village at the intersection of the port and the polders. (…)"

Since the Pastries conference in La Spezia last February, cooperation between KunstDoel and Love Difference has become much closer. Last June, KunstDoel attended the foundational meeting of Pistoletto's Mediterranean Cultural Parliament in Strasbourg, an initiative the mission of which can be summarized in a single term: "ARTIVISM".

This Friday, Love Difference project coordinator Emanuela Baldi will be in Antwerp and we will hold a joint press conference to sign a Love Difference-KunstDoel twinning agreement.
In the medium term, KunstDoel would like to extend the experience and contacts it gained during its Doel support campaign to other communities in distress, like for instance the polder villages of Zwankendamme and Lissewege near the port of Zeebruges, or the villages along the Schipdonk Channel, where a scenario reminiscent of Doel is happening. Initial contacts have been made and representatives of the "Liveable Polder Villages" and "TGrootGedelf" action groups will attend the press conference.

In conclusion of the press briefing, we will lift a tip of the veil regarding upcoming art initiatives in Doel next year. Proposals by individual artists and organisations flow in on a daily basis, the crucial "make or break" year for Doel.

Sarà un cioccolatino a salvare il villaggio di Doel?
Quando il cioccolatino di KunstDoel venne selezionato per entrare a far parte del network internazionale Pasticcerie Love Difference, un giornale belga titolò: “Sarà un cioccolatino a salvare il villaggio di Doel?”
Non possiamo sapere se questo sarà effettivamente possibile, sta di fatto che questo innocente e simpatico progetto ha portato ad una svolta positiva nell’opinione pubblica a favore di Doel.

L’appello di KunstDoel per mantenere Doel come “paese di eventi artistici” all’interno ed in armonia col porto ha raggiunto le 1700 firme. Lo scorso 22 Ottobre il Ministro della Cultura Fiamminga Bert Anciaux ha scritto: "è possibile che ci sia una piccola probabilità che il porto potrebbe risultare più gradevole se si mantiene Doel. Si potrebbe attribuire al villaggio un ruolo significativo: villaggio artistico tra il porto ed I polders (…)”

Dall’incontro di febbraio sulle Pasticcerie a La Spezia, la cooperazione tra KunstDoel e Love Difference si è fatta più stretta. Lo scorso giugno, KunstDoel ha preso parte all’incontro fondante il Parlamento Culturale Mediterraneo a Strasburgo, un’iniziativa la cui mission è sintetizzata dal termine: ARTIVISMO.
Questo venerdì, la project coordinator di Love Difference Emanuela Baldi sarà ad Anversa per presiedere con KunstDoel alla conferenza stampa durante la quale verrà firmato il gemellaggio Love Difference-KunstDoel.

KunstDoel si prefigge a medio termine di estendere la sua esperienza ed i contatti ottenuti attraverso la campagna di sostegno ad altre comunità in difficoltà come ad esempio i villaggi polder Zwankendamme e Lissewege vicino al porto Zeebruges, o i paesini lungo Schipdonk Channel,dove si sta presentando uno scenario simile a quello di Doel. Rappresentanti di queste realtà saranno presenti alla conferenza.

A conclusione della conferenza le future iniziative a Doel per il prossimo anno: un fittissimo programma di proposte di artisti ed organizzazioni accompagnerà quest'anno cruciale per il destino di Doel.
