Curating art: a book by Chiara Bertola
on the figure of the curator
What does “Curating art”
mean? Is the curator a simple organizer or even a critic? Are the
exhibitions to which he/her devotes his time places for critic writing
and reflection or are they just a problem of development and display,
lists of artists and box office? Chiara Bertola tries with her volume
(Electa publishing) to provide answers to these questions by placing
the focus of her research, on the figure of the curator. Interviews
with: Carolyn Christov Bagargiev, Carlos Basualdo, Achille Bonito
Oliva, Paolo Colombo, Emanuela De Cecco, Giacinto Di Pietrantonio,
Federico Ferrari, Massimiliano Gioni, Adelina von Furstenberg, Hou
Hanrou, Surasi Kusolwong, Yuko Hasegawa, Henry Meyric Hughes, Rosa
Martinez, Viktor Misiano, Gloria Moure, Federico Nicolao, Hans Ulrich
Obrist, Francesca Pasini, Roberto Pinto, Anne Pontegnie and Xavier
Douroux, Ludovico Pratesi, Harald Szemann, Pierluigi Tazzi, Lea Vergine,
Angela Vettese.
The protagonists’ stories are a picture of the activity of the
curator, which is in perpetual evolution. "Curare l’arte"
was presented in a preview at Artelibro, Festival of the Book of Art
in Bologna.
