A new space for culture in Nablus: the
Cultural Heritage Enrichment Center. Opening exhibition until November
26, 2008
The Arafat Soap Factory, 400 years
old, has been renovated and turned into a multi-purpose cultural centre.
It provides suitable space for use by children, young, adults and
students of art, architecture and cultural heritage, especially those
living in the Old City of Nablus (Palestine). It comprises a permanent
exhibition of traditional soap making, a library which concentrates
on local and world heritage, art and architecture, a gallery-cum-
activity room, children's audio- visual centre, and a club for traditional
crafts like soap, hand- woven rugs and ceramics.
Renovated by architect Naseer Arafat for the Sheikh Amr Arafat Foundation,
the Centre was opened on the 17th of November, hosting the exhibition
of works by Afaf Arafat. The artist studied her subject in England
and the States. She draws her inspiration from the Old City of Nablus
and from the Palestinian countryside. Her media are paint, collage
and water color which she finds challenging and which attracts her
by its transparency and delicate beauty.
The exhibition will be open until November 26, 2008.
