Public Turbulence: art, events and meetings
at Isola Art Center. Milan, May 22 - August 31 2009
Isola Art Center is an open platform and a laboratory which
combines the activities and desires of the inhabitants of the Milanese
borough of Isola with the research in contemporary art. Forcely cleared
off from Stecca degli Artigiani buildings in 2007, the Center is the
result of almost ten years of commitment to the defence of the neighbourhood
by the residents, artists, researchers and activists. A set of people
who remain convinced they can stop or limit as far as possible, including
through the use of unconventional tactics, the destruction of public
spaces in the neighborhood and converting them into places of consumption
or land speculation. Isola Art Center organizes from May 22 to August
31 a series of art events curated by Alberto Pesavento and Bert Theis,
a special project by artists and curators from Visual Arts and Curatorial
Studies Course at NABA Art College. Meetings and performances are
designed not only to be viewed, but also to be crossed by discussion,
and based on the belief that when we talk about “the public”,
we should not mean a silent and helpless audience facing what occurs
every day.
Today, Isola Art Center is hosted by Soundmetak, Tantrika Shop, Puerto
de Libros, Osterialnove, Punto Rosso, NABA.
