Art, science and sustainability in the contest "Science en plein air". Deadline for applications: 14 February 2011
"Science en plein air" is a competition launched by the Natural Sciences Museum of Trento and addressed to young Italian artists to promote art and science, combining them with sustainability. The competition will select seven projects of public art by artists under 35 years of age, which will be realised and exhibited in the city of Trento. Besides being an expression of dialogue between art, science and sustainability, the works shall relate harmoniously with the city and encourage reflection on mentioned issues.
The competition comes from research conducted by the Natural Sciences Museum of Trento in collaboration with the Research Centre on Contemporary (Trento) and Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto (Biella), on the new format of communication and the use of art’s language to bring the public closer to scientific contents, with the aim of strengthening the social function of the museum. The competition gives an opportunity for selected artists to directly study the urban context of the city and establish a relationship with other artists, with scientists and local workers. The museum will offer selected artists two periods of artistic residence in the city of Trento, to study the context, define the work and realize their installations.
