“A record for Pellestrina”:
the longest pillow lace of the world. On Saturday 7 October on the
island of Pellestrina
Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto and
Love Difference, together with Lisa Castellani, Enrica Cavarzan, Maria
Zanchi, Gloria Safont-Tria, take part in “A record for Pellestrina”,
artistic project that through the realization of the longest pillow
lace of the world aims to build better relations within the Pellestrina
community.
A public presentation event will take place on Saturday, the 7th of
October, 4:00 pm.
Pellestrina, an island in the Venice lagoon, is a small natural paradise,
a place full of fascination and ancient cultures, linked to the traditions
of fishermen, peasants, sailors and of lace-makers. The tombolo lace
used to be the main feminine occupation on the island and was taught
at school, referring to an important tradition. The project “A
record for Pellestrina” starts from this peculiar tradition
in order to activate people living in Pellestrina, and to prompt,
through team-work processes, a reflection on the concepts of community,
social transformation and dialogue with the others. Everyone is invited
to participate, making a lace fragment, or giving a personal contribution,
according to his own competences: the project aims to involve a large
part of the population. All pieces of lace, including designs made
on purpose by a local designer, will be joined, forming a unique strip,
as extended as possible. The strip will represent the island: its
tightened and particularly lengthened shape, the typical constructions
and the symbols that identify it. At the end of the project, the longest
lace of the world will belong to the inhabitants of Pellestrina. The
project “A record for Pellestrina”, started in summer
2005, when Cittadellarte and Love Difference took part in the 51st
International Exposure of Art, the Venice Biennial; it will end with
an event on the island of Pellestrina in june 2007, during the 52nd
edition of the Venice Biennial.
