Michelangelo Pistoletto's Love Difference
Table at Tel Aviv Museum of Art. From 19 July until 6 October, 2007
After Arles, Beirut, Tunis, Venice and Zagreb, the Mediterranean
Table – Love Difference by Michelangelo Pistoletto will be exhibited
in Israel.
The Italian Cultural Institute of Tel Aviv will open today, 19 July,
2007 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art “Italian Mentalscapes: A
Journey through Italian Contemporary Art”, a major art exhibition
that presents the works of the most influential Italian contemporary
artists. The exhibition, curated by Demetrio Paparoni, includes Italian
art from the 1960s through the present, featuring conceptual artists,
Arte Povera artists, artists of the transavantgarde, and artists of
the younger generation.
On display Michelangelo Pistoletto’s “Love Difference”:
a mirroring table, shaped in the form of the Mediterranean basin,
surrounded with several chairs originating from various countries.
With this work Pistoletto - who was recently awarded the Wolf Prize-
offers a meeting place for exchanging ideas between people of different
cultures and ethnicities, ready to sit at the same table with a mindset
of “love difference”. The table is the symbol of Love
Difference network, Artistic Movement for an InterMediterranean Politic,
founded by Pistoletto. Managed by Cittadellarte’s Politics Office,
Love Difference NGO aims to support artistic projects in the Mediterranean
Countries.
The exhibition will be open until 6 October 2007.
