Love Difference pastries

Love Difference is launching an open-call to collect recipes and creative activities, with the aim of constructing a Love Difference Confectioneries network, i.e. places where differences will meet each other and will be tasted.
The proposals should be able to translate the idea of coexistence among differences through the use of one or more of the features charaterizing a sweet.
For example by:
• the use of ingredients: through the combination of ingredients that are symbolically tied to different cultures or through the food design.
• the making process: in a participated way where people from apparently diverse communities are involved in creating a sweet together; otherwise by using the crossbreeding of typical recipes or the valorisation of traditional processes by introducing new creative contributions.
• the way of distributing the sweet: by convivial events for sharing the sweet or by using a system of distribution that combines particular channels of "intercultural" spreading.

Therefore the recipes should translate the idea of cohabitation among cultures, using different channels: ingredients, production and distribution techniques, food design…

The products will be selected by a jury composed of Bruno Corà (art critic), Matteo Guglielmetti (Ristorante Circo degli Artisti), Fabio Pettirino (anthropologist), Michelangelo Pistoletto (artist), Francesco Strocchi and Pietro Congiu (Cittadellarte - cafeteria glocal restaurant).

The entries selected will be presented at the event Gelato e Dolci Love Difference come passaporto culturale (Love Difference Ice-cream and sweets as cultural passports), included in the exhibition “Cittadellarte Pistoletto and the Third Paradise”, curated by Bruno Corà at the CAMeC Modern and Contemporary Art Center in La Spezia, on 22, 23, 24 February, 2008. The creators of the recipes will be invited to participate in the round table with Michelangelo Pistoletto and the Love Difference staff to discuss about the artistic-culinary cooperation as basis of the project.

Promoters:
The project is promoted by Love Difference, Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, in collaboration with CAMeC Modern and Contemporary Art Center in La Spezia.

Participants:
The project is addressed to artists, confectioners, bakers, chefs, creatives, who are interested in the realisation of an artistic project which aims to promote the meeting and the dialogue among cultures, through the distribution of new sweet recipes around the Mediterranean countries, made by the Love Difference confectioneries. Love Difference suggests the authors of the recipes to establish contacts with a pre-existing channel of sale (restaurant, bar, confectionery...)

Terms & Conditions:

The following documents are required and must be sent by not later than 17th January 2008:
• Concept of the project (what are the reasons and motivations that make the sweet a channel of intercultural dialogue?)
• The recipe (ingredients, dosage, preparation/cooking time and step by step instructions)
• Curriculum vitae of the authors
• Filled in application form: download in DOC or PDF format

A jury composed of Bruno Corà (art critic), Matteo Guglielmetti (Ristorante Circo degli Artisti), Fabio Petterino (anthropologist), Michelangelo Pistoletto (artist), Francesco Strocchi and Pietro Congiu (Cittadellarte - cafeteria glocal restaurant), will select the best entries and will invite the authors of the first ten recipes selected to the meeting Gelato e Dolci Love Difference come passaporto culturale (Love Difference Ice-cream and sweets as cultural passports) on 22, 23 and 24 February 2008, at the CAMeC Modern and Contemporary Art Center in La Spezia.

Love Difference caters for the travel expenses (with an amount of money depending on the participants location. Look at the list) and for the accomodation, with an amount of 100 euro a day per each participant of the ten selected projects.

Projects must be handed in by 17th January 2008, 6:30pm CET.

The results will be published on this website and sent via e-mail on 21st January 2008, 6:30pm, CET.

Languages:
Proposals are accepted in English, Italian, French, German and Spanish languages. The event Gelato e Dolci Love Difference come passaporto culturale (Love Difference Ice-cream and Sweets as Cultural Passports) will be held in English.
