Going Public in Greece:
Love Difference in Larissa for Communities and Territories
At its third edition, Going Public
(a public art project born in Modena along with the Festival
of Philosophy) seeks for widening its boundaries.
Filippo Fabbrica, Love Difference coordinator, will present Love Difference
projects at the debate of the 21st of May in Larissa, featuring Yorgos
Tzirtzilakis (Greece); Carlos Basualdo (Argentina/USA); Marti Peran
(Spain); Jerome Sans (France). On Sunday, the 22nd of May, the Love
Difference coordinator will hold a workshop at the Katsigras Municipal
Gallery, Larissa, with local artists and writers.
Thus, the 2005 edition of Going Public, focusing on the New
Europe issues – people, economy and culture streams from East
to West and back – will be structured in different sections:
on site workshops with locals (young and elderly people, immigrants,
etc.), making of works of art (photography, video, urban actions,
performances), public debates, film reviews, and the publishing of
a book.
The first stage of the project, curated by Claudia Zanfi with Roula
Planta, will take place in Larissa (Greece), after the invitation
of the City, for the opening of the Contemporary Art Centre on the
21st of May. Communities and Territories is the title of
this first step, in which international artists will take part into
workshops at the Macedonian boundary, together with authors from the
former Yugoslavia. The aim is that of investigating life in border
territories in the Balkans; migration processes; activities in small
foreign communities in Larissa (rom, vlachos, refugees from Middle
East, Russia, Albania, Serbia, etc.). The second step will take place
in Modena in autumn, focusing on the Baltic region, with artists from
North-East Europe. .
