Black Athena: contemporary African art on display in Ameno (Italy), until October 30
The association Asilo bianco, in collaboration with comune di Ameno, Studio d’arte Raffaelli - Trento, Marco Noire Contemporary Art - Saint Sebastiano Po (Turin), Yard 48 – Turin, opened on Sunday 2 October the exhibition Black Athena, closing on 30 October at Palazzo Tornielli, Ameno (Novara, Italy). On display works by African artists, with deep roots in the cultural and political experiences of their Countries. Willie Bester, Studio Bobson, Conrad Botes, Zwelethu Mthethwa and Jackson Nkumanda have artistically grown in the Eighties, period in which the fight for freedom was expressed through public protests; although in their works different identities are asserted, they express what they think and what they are. Through the problematic issues of the post-apartheid climate marking South Africa, the artists of "Black Athena" analyse the human condition, referring to the labile nature of the collective memory.
The exhibition is open Friday to Sunday until October 30, with various collateral events related to African cultures.
