From South to North: in July a training and artistic creation workshop in july in Baddawi camp, Lebanon
In 2001, Asiles contributed to the creation of the House of the Free-Palestinian Friendship (MAFPA), a cultural space located in the Palestinian refugee camp of Baddawi, in Lebanon. Its team of organizers, supported by European speakers members of Asiles, is made up of voluntary Palestinian young people who propose activities of artistic expression and discovering the cultures of the world to the children of the camp. Today, this team is able to reverse the traditional relations of the co-operation North-South by expressing for the first time at Asiles a request for education targeted to improve its technical and educational skills through the set up of artistic workshops. The artistic educational-creative workshop proposes to explore four artistic disciplines - theatre, puppet, visual arts and writing - with a group of 20 young Palestinian and Lebanese organizers (16-26 years) members of MAFPA. This work on the artistic disciplines will take place during 4 weeks in July 2006 with MAFPA in the refugee camp of Baddawi. Cultural study trips will be organized to open to the artistic and cultural environment in Lebanon. The workshop will end with the creation of an artistic show which will be presented at MAFPA to a public of children, and at the Theatre Beit el Fan in Tripoli.
Aim of the project is to reconcile education and artistic creation by leading the group to create a spectacle; to support the interest of the organizers in art by putting them in a step of personal research in this field; to widen the team of the current organizers. Long-term aims are: to improve teaching and artistic competences of the team; to take part in the efforts of structuring and becoming autonomous of team MAFPA.
