Internet middle ages in Greece? The shutting down of a cultural portal
cultureguide.gr, Greece's internationally awarded cultural portal started in 2002 and run by a team of seven journalists, covering all cultural events taking place in in the country, has been shut down by the Ministry of Culture just a day after the opening of the Internet Governance Forum in Athens, Greece. The project belonged to the Hellenic Culture Organization SA, a company financed exclusively by the Ministry of Culture. Since the government shift two years ago, the HCO had a new president and Board of Directors, who have been accused of having launched an ideological cleansing in the company, following orders of the new culture minister. This most recent case of censorship (after that of blogme.gr) rise ther problem concerning the future of information society in Greece.
