MCA: International Prize for Mediterranean
Documentary & Reportage. Deadline for submissions: June 3rd 2007
The “Centre Méditerranéen de la Communication
Audiovisuelle” is launching its 12th International Prize for
Mediterranean Documentary & Reportage. In order to be eligible
for entry, documentaries need to have been produced after January
1st 2005, while reportage and magazine style programmes must have
been produced after January 1st 2006. Inaugurated in 1994, the Prize
contributes to providing improved visibility to works dealing with
society, history, heritage, art and culture from the Mediterranean
basin area and to facilitating their distribution on both shores of
the Mediterranean. Organised in partnership with RAI, the Italian
state television network, the Prize is conducted in two stages: adjudication
of the works in Marseilles and the final stage, including screenings
and the awards ceremony, taking place in Italy. The CMCA receives
almost 300 works each year competing for prizes in different categories:
Mediterranean Challenges (6,000 euro), Mediterranean Memories (5,000
euro), Mediterranean Art, Heritage and Culture (5,000 euro) and Debut
Work (5,000 euro). In 2007, two new categories have been added: the
“Faro d’Oro” and a “Special Jury Prize”.
The Prize is open to all TV networks (public or private), production
houses (public, private or community-based), writers, directors, journalists
and film and documentary-makers who, through their works or programmes,
contribute to a better understanding of Mediterranean history, culture
and traditions. To participate, applicants must send in a DVD of the
work in two of the three official languages (English, French or Italian)
together with a summary of the presented work (10 lines maximum) and
a biography of the author (10 lines maximum). The deadline for submitting
films for the prize is 3 June 2007.
