Cameron Sinclair Music of the
Mediterranean
Project in collaboration with Love Difference
From 14th of February to 13th of April 2003, Love Difference has participated
in "Critic is not enough", an exhibition curated by Dagmar Reichert,
which was taking place at the Shedhalle in Zurich.
On this occasion an installation in the shape of the mediterranean sea got
presented, containing five audio points where visitors could listen to cds
with mediterranean sounds, collected by Cameron Sinclair.
The research of Cameron Sinclair, english composer and former UNIDEE resident,
tried to represent five different aspects of the developement of the music
in the mediterranean area.
The Cds, all lasting between 10-12 minutes and consisting of a union of
different tracks, were dedicated to the following themes:
CD1: The Gipsy Diaspora - performance of Gipsy groups of the mediterranean
region.
CD2: The Sephardic Diaspora - collaboration between arab and jewish musicians,
recreating and reinventing the music of the Sephardic Jews, an ancient style
that united muslim and jewish musics.
CD3: Greece, Turkey and the Balkans - an exploration of the musics of this
area, with collaborations between musicians coming from eastern mediterranean
countries.
