Love Difference Tour
Travelling the Mediterranean
Julia Trolp, Germany:
drawing immigration
romantic representations of not
so romantic subjects
Project in collaboration with Love Difference
Historical boat expeditions carried on board a great mix of people, such
as adventurers, scientists, politicians, craftsmen, cooks and doctors. Also
an artist was always part of the boat crew. His role was to document everything
the expedition came across: he made detailed drawings of landscapes, people,
plants and buildings.
Also the Love Difference Tour will have an artist on board who is going
to do drawings. Only that now the subject isn't nature or people any more,
but modern reality with its burocratic apparatus: the drawings will show
immigration offices and police stations as representations of immigration
politics and will therefore stand in stark contrast to the romantic image
of drawings and watercolors from unknown territory.
