“Cosmopolis 1 Microcosmos X Macrocosmos”, the new Balkan Biennial, in Thessaloniki until February 13 The State Museum of Contemporary Art, in cooperation with the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki (Greece), is holding an exhibition titled “Cosmopolis 1 Microcosmos X Macrocosmos”, which opened at the State Museum of Contemporary Art, at the Warehouses ?1 and at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki on the 17th of December. Participants artists, presenting some 150 works of art, come from ten countries of south-eastern Europe (Greece, Albania, F.Y.R.O.M, Serbia-Montenegro, Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia). The subtitle “Microcosmos X Macrocosmos” was suggested for “Cosmopolis 1”, to show the curators’ attempt to explore the relationships between the regionalism and globalisation, localism and cosmopolitanism, urban and rural landscape, through contemporary art. General curator of the exhibition is Magda Carneci, Miltiades Papanikolaou has the general coordination. Ten curators from the participating countries contributed also to the selection of works. This original large-scale exhibition, in the form of Biennial, aims to become a new European art institution.
